RIVERFRONT STREETS RENAMED

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) As of January 1st, some street names in downtown Terre Haute near the Wabash River have been changed to Riverside Rd.
This is being done on North 1st St., along with portions of South 1st St., and Prairieton Rd. This has been put in motion by the Wabash Riverscape Development as they look for ways to help revitalize the area and encourage more people to come to the Wabash River. Lori Danielson is the Riverfront Development director, and she mentioned something like this could also bring more people to the Wabash River and call that area home.
“It’s important, it’s just a piece of the larger plan, which really has to do with not just like creating identity for our riverfront, but transitioning property,” Danielson said. “So that we can have greater trail access and create opportunities for people to access the river more safely. It’s not just about the road name change and creating identity, but it’s creating ways for people to enjoy the riverfront and potentially live on the riverfront.”
Danielson also mentioned that the changing of road names will not affect people when it comes to getting mail for both homes and businesses.
“The US Post Office will acknowledge prior addresses indefinitely,” Danielson said. “So people can work through the materials, checks, and address changes and things can happen over time.”
Danielson also mentioned that businesses that are along Riverside Road have until January 31st to submit any requests for business expense reimbursements that could have resulted from any marketing changes and other things to change as a result of the new street names.
